The Rams get a tough draw with a visit to Atlanta. The Falcons have owned the Rams this season, beating them 14-34 at home in week 4 and beating them 13-17 in week 15. There is some hope for the Rams though. Rams rookie HB Adrian Peterson led the league in rushing this season with 1,405 yards, and should do well against the Falcons 25th ranked run defense. The main problem for the Rams though will be finding a way to stop Falcon HB Darrell Thompson (1,348 yards, 12 TDs). This one will be as close as the week 15 game but with the same result.

With the disqualification of the Patriots, the Colts managed to catch a break and sneak into the playoffs despite losing their final two games. Keep in mind those two losses came against playoff teams - San Diego and Pittsburgh. The Bengals didn't exactly roar into the playoffs either as they lost their last three games - all against playoff teams too. Somethings gotta give in this one. The Colts seem to live and die with their running game behind HB Scooter McLendon (1,389 yards, 11 TDs), and unfortunately for them the Bengals have a decent run defense. What this one really comes down to is if the Colts can stop the Bengal's offense led by QB Chad Aikman (4,624 yards, 36 TDs). I don't think they can do more than slow the Bengals down.

The Packers may have lucked out by avoiding the Cardinals as I don't think they would have had a chance. With the Bears coming to town it won't be easy either. These teams split their divisional games, beating each other in one another's stadiums. If you go by that trend, the Packers could be in trouble. This one will be an air battle between Bears QB Mark Detmer (3,984 yds, 36 TDs) and Bears WR Walter Wilson (1,670 yds, 18 TDs) and Packers QB Andre Ware (4,389 yds, 33 TDs) and Packers WR Larry Fitzgerald (1,446 yds, 10 TDs). The real difference maker will be whether or not the Bears can stop the Packers sack machine (DE Gammon 13, DE Williams 12, LB McGhee 12, and S Furrer 11). Considering the Bears allowed 92 sacks (27th in the league), I'd say Detmer may be spending a lot of time in the ice tub after this one.

On the surface it looks like the Seahawks catch a break by avoiding the Patriots. They crushed the Steelers 31-7 in week 2, but that was a long time ago. HB Barry Sanders (991 yds, 8 TDs) will need to lead the Steelers to victory in this one as there is no way the Steelers can pass on the Seahawks 5th ranked pass defense with DE Claude Wroten (24 sacks!) ready to terrorize QB Cary Conklin all day. The Steelers have a decent pass defense led by CB Mark Roman (5 INTs), but they are about to face QB Dan McGwire (5,519 yds, 40 TDs!) who is clearly the league's best QB right now. This one seems set in stone as I would be shocked if the Steelers can even keep it close. |
